Movement – Us (Kowton Remix)

Bristol based producer Kowton is having a solid run lately. After forming a new label which was focused on strictly vinyl-only releases in 2010 with his contemporaries Peverelist and Asusu called Livity Sound they plan to group their six white label releases and four new tracks together across two 12″ in October. This will also be the first time they release on digital platforms and marks a change of attitudes while still remaining determinedly independent.

Along with his own label Kowton has been also chucking out some pumping remixes. First premiered on Boiler Room his new remix of Movement’s Us maintains the smooth but spooky R&B undertones of the ace original but strips it down while adding some grimey beefed up bass. The beats get drilled into your head, almost getting too much until the steel drums kick in halfway through, reminding me of Jamie XX’s releases. Love a bit of steel drum.
